PURPOSE:A mixture of powdered active carbon and an organic binder is kneaded and shaped and the shaped product is heat treated at a temperature higher than 400 deg.C to produce shaped active carbon with high content of active carbon, high adsorption, thus being suitably used in the removal of fuel vapors by adsorption. CONSTITUTION:Powdery active carbon is combined with a phenolic resin and/or lignine, a small amount of forming aid may be added, and they are mixed with water, kneaded, shaped into a desired form and heat treated under an atmosphere of an inert gas such as nitrogen at 400-1,100 deg.C to give the objective shaped active carbon. |
