PURPOSE:To prepare a hollow glass fiber with a given thickness efficiently, by equipping a top plate member having a gas introducing hole at the top of a hole for flowing molten glass, taking out molten glass while a gas ia absorbed in molten glass. CONSTITUTION:The supporting container 1 forming the hole 3 for flowing molten glass is equipped with the peripheral wall 5a extending to the inner hollow part 2 of the container 1, the cover plate 4 having a base as the top plate member 5 is attached to the container 1, and the gas introducing hole 6 is digged at nearly central part of the top plate member 5 in such a way that the hole 6 is placed almost concentrically with the flowing hole 3. The inner hollow part 2 of the plate 1 is charged with the molten glass 7, the molten glass 7a is made to flow from the flowing hole 3 and a gas is absorbed from the introducing hole 6 in the glass to form the hollow part 8. The molten glass is drawn and solidified to give the hollow glass fiber 10. |
