PURPOSE:To enable a workpiece to be accurately and completely secured, by utilizing the projecting line pieces provided on the periphery of the chuck end part for applying plastic deformation to the workpiece to be secured. CONSTITUTION:A mandrel chuck 3 is screwed to the end surface at one end of a rotary spindle supported by a headstock. A plurality of projecting line pieces 3c are monolithically formed on the chuck 3, and the projecting line piece part is coated with titanium carbide. The effective range of the depth of the projecting line piece 3c is more than 0.02mm.. When the internal diameter part of a workpiece (stock) is fitted up to the stepped surface 3d from the chuck end part 3a by pressure such as oil pressure, the workpiece is plastically deformed and firmly secured. The stock is readily removed from the chuck by inversely applying oil pressure.
