An X-ray apparatus, comprising a weight compensation device which is suspended from the ceiling and which includes a carriage which is displaceable along the ceiling. A component which is displaceable along a patient table is suspended from the carriage by means of a cable. Vin a transducer device, a signal is applied to a control circuit which is connected to an electric motor which drives the carriage in order toccompensate for the relative displacement between the carriage and the component.
