Conversion of alcohol feeds to olefin-rich hydrocarbons is carried out at a temp. of 350-600 degrees C, a WHSV of 0.5-15 and a pressure of 1-100 atm. using a zeolite catalyst with a constraint index of 1-12 and a SiO2/Al2O3 r tio of >=140 (pref. 298-2000). The catalysts give greatly increased selectivity for 2-4 C olefins (from methanol feeds) compared with similar catalysts having a lower SiO2/Al2O3 ratio. The alcohol feed pref. comprises methanol, pref. with an anhydrous diluent such as H2, He, N2, CO2, a 2-7C alkane or flue gas. The catalyst pref. comprises ZSM-5 (esp. in H form), opt. in a binder matrix. |
