PURPOSE:To easily remove produced scales by forming a coat for modifying scale on the surface of stainless steel prior to heat treatment to modify scales produced in the process of heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:Prior to heat treatment a black coat is formed on the surface of stainless steel by electrolysis in a treating bath contg. one or more of glue, gelatin, etc. as a binder and an electrolyte such as water soluble metal salt as well as carbon black as a principal component. The stuck amount of the coat is adjusted to 5- 30mg/dm<2> at a dry state. The coat is then refined at 800-1,000 deg.C steel temp. to modify scale to an easily removable form, and the scale is rapidly removed in a short time by dipping the coat in an aqueous soln. of chemicals such as nitric acid having descaling action during or after cooling or other method. |
