<p>Inactivated rabies vaccine is prepd. from a wild strain of the virus obtd. from the saliva of foxes that have died of rabies, and fixed by successive passages through mice, given intracerebrally to give an incubation time of 7-8 days and a content of 10 power 8 of the LD50 per ml. The virus is pref. obtd. from the salivary glands of the foxes and undergoes 50 passages through the mice, each passage being made from the crushed brains of the previous mouse. The strain of virus may also be adapted for culture on a monolayer of a hamster lung cell line. This may then serve as an initial viral strain for the industrial culture of the virus.</p> |
