Machine for polishing monumental stone - uses grinders on slide traversing beam which travels on rails and uses detectors to control movement

The grinder is used to polish masonry slabs for monuments (10) and progressively covers the slab surface by reciprocal linear sweeps interposed by normal steps. It uses detectors (13) to determine the presence of the slab beneath the grinding head. The machine uses a multi-grinder (7) head (6) suspended from slide (3) traversing a beam (2) which in turn travels on rails (1), and detectors are mounted on the head (6). This obviates manually adjustable end of run stops, whilst permitting the treatment of slabs in any shape. The detectors may be of the photo-electric type, act with a programmer and memory, and may number four to a cruciform layout.
