The pedestrian protection for the front of a car has airbags over the front of the bonnet and an extending scoop under the front bumper to tip pedestrians onto the padded bonnet instead of running over them. The airbags are inflated by impact sensors and by using compressed air in gas bottles mounted behind the bumper. The main airbag covers the bonnet and protects the pedestrian from the lights and from sharp edges. The scoop is mounted on servo extended arms and is padded with an inflated cushion at a higher pressure than the main airbag.
