<p>Automatic piecening equipment for, partic. ring-spinning frames, comprises a variable-speed travelling carriage carrying the piecening mechanisms on which are mounted two break detectors, the first being 4-7 spindles in advance of the second. When the first detector registers a break, it effects a reduction in the carriage speed, which is reduced further, to a crawl, when the second detector passes the break, enabling the carriage to be rapidly halted with the piecening device abreast of the break. The carriage resumes its patrol at the slower speed for a pre-determined distance, to enable it to deal with any breaks registered in the gap between the two detectors. This arrangement permits the carriage to have a fast patrol speed of 20-40 m/min, whilst being able to stop rapidly and accurately at a break without excessive stress on the equipment, or without complicated and time-consuming over-run and reverse mechanisms.</p> |
