The 5-alkoxypicolinic acids of formula I in which R and M are as defined in Claim 1, as well as the organic salts and organic esters of these which are acceptable from the pharmaceutical viewpoint, have a significant antihypertensive activity. They can consequently be used in an effective amount from the pharmaceutical viewpoint in antihypertensive medicinal compositions intended especially for the treatment of heart disorders. <IMAGE>
