The friction disc (5, 5') has a convexly curved asymmetric yarn contact-face profile which has the form of a segment of a spiral, for example an Archimedean spiral (13, 14), a hyperbolic spiral or a spiral-like curve, for example a cardioid. The friction disc, which serves for the friction false twisting of synthetic textile yarns, has the advantage that the yarn contact-face profile is a continuous curve and any disturbing effect of transitions is eliminated. <IMAGE>
