The vehicle has its starter (16) switched in to restart the combustion engine after its no-load phase when the accelerator pedal is depressed. The accelerator pedal operates a switch (8) which in turn closes a relay (12,13) that closes the circuit containing the starter. A speed-dependent switch (9) by-passes the accelerator-pedal switch shorting it out below a river speed and thereby causing the clutch to disengage and decouple the engine from the gears. Operating the clutch pedal causes another switch (10) to disable the accelerator-pedal switch and the by-passing switch. The clutch is disengaged by disabling the circuit (5) that supplies it with current.
