A locking filler cap adapted for universal use with both larger- diameter and smaller-diameter filler necks includes a central cylindrical closure member 22 extending from the cap shell 12 and having a diameter just slightly smaller than the smaller-diameter filler necks to guide the closure telescopically into the end of the smaller-diameter filler neck, and a pair of opposed, perimetrally extending indentations 132 which cooperate with perimetrally extending protrusions 134 formed in a cylindrical outer sleeve member 130 to lock the sleeve member onto the closure member. The sleeve member has an outside diameter slightly smaller than the larger-diameter filler necks to adapt the cap to the larger- diameter filler necks. An annular gasket 120 is mounted onto the closure member and includes a sleeve section 122 which grips the closure member, an annular outer section 129 for engaging the upper lip portions of the filler necks of both larger- and smaller-diameter filler necks and an axially inwardly opening central annular recess portion 126 for receiving the sleeve member. <IMAGE> |
