REMOVAL METHOD FOR CARBONYL SULFIDE

PURPOSE:To effectively remove carbonyl sulfide (COS) by allowing liquid or gas contg. COS to contact fired red mud. CONSTITUTION:COS-contg. liquid or gas is allowed to contact the red mud produced by drying hydrous red mud and grinding and firing the resultant cakelike anhydride. In this case, it is equally well to pass the COS-contg. liquid or gas through the fixed bed packed with granulated red mud or to cause contacting of the powdery red mud and the COS-contg. liquid or gas by a suitable method. The contact temp. may be below normal temp. or if necessary, above about 100 deg.C.
