PURPOSE:To measure a total amount of nitrogen continuously and quickly by a process which comprises reductive decomposition of a sample in contact to turn N compound to NH3, absorption of NH3 into a strong acid solution, and a high chromatography of a certain amount of the absorption solution in which the fluorescence strength is measured with addition of a fluorescence emitting reagent to the eluting liquid thereof. CONSTITUTION:A sample is introduced into a sample boat 10 from a sample introduction part 9 of a contact reductive decomposer 1, and H2 fed thereinto from a hydrogen cylinder 2. The boat 10 is sent to a decomposition part 11 with a control bar 8 to decompose the mixture with a heater 17. The mixture thus decomposed is reduced with a catalyst 12 on a support to turn N compound to NH3. Acid gases as by-product (H2S, HCl and the like) are absorbed with an acid gas absorbent 13 while NH3 is absorbed into a strong acid solution in an ammonia trapping section 15. A certain amount of the absorption liquid is introduced into a column 21 of a high speed chromatograph from a sample introduction part 20. The moving phase 18 is sent to the column 21 while an elution liquid is reacted with a fluorescence emitting liquid 22 in a chemical reaction tank 24 to measure the fluorescence strength with a fluorescent photometer. |
