Compact shaped articles are produced from vulcanizable rubber mixtures in powder form in a screw plasticizing unit. The plasticizing unit has a screw and a barrel which define an inlet section, a mixing section and discharge section. In the inlet section there is a delivery-active feed pocket opposite the feed unit and providing a shocked shallow concavo space disposed poripherally and longitudinally between the screw and the barrel above the inlot section of the screw. The powdered mixture is introduced by the food units into the feed pocket and is processed by the plasticizing unit and delivered therefrom to injection moulding apparatus.
