PURPOSE:To enable a high discharge voltage and a large electric capacity to be obtained, by adding a metal powder to manganese dioxide used as a positive active material. CONSTITUTION:A primary alkaline battery includes a negative active material 4 made of an amalgamated zinc powder, an electrolyte made of an aqueous alkaline solution, and a positive-active-material molded body 7 made of a positive active material principally containing MnO2. In forming the former positive molded body 7, a metal powder is added as a conductive assistant. The former metal powder is preferred to be Ni, Cu, Ag or Au. It is preferred that the Ni powder is prepared either by an electrolytic method or by subjecting nickel tetracarbonyl, Ni(CO)4, to thermal decomposition. |
