PURPOSE:To enable to ensure the detection of the entire luster area, by constituting the convertr in such a way that the filament image of illumination lamp is projected on the luster area of object to be read in and the projected image is formed on the photodetector. CONSTITUTION:An illumination lamp 11 and a reflection mirror 12 provided with it, illuminate the mail 2 carried toward the arrow (a). In this case, the filament 11F of the lamp 11 is provided at the direction orthogonal to the carrying direction (a) of the mail 2, and the filament image can be projected on the mirror surface of cellophane paper, i.e., luster area 1 of the mail 2. On the other hand, the reflected light from the mail 2 is fed to the photodetector 14 via the image forming lens 13 and converted into electric signal. In this case, the photodetector 14 is provided orthogonal to the carrying direction (a) of the mail 2, and the filament image projected on the luster area 1 of the mail 2 can be formed on the photodetection plane. |
