Polymers and copolymers of C3 and higher olefins are manufd. in the presence of catalysts consisting of Group I-III organometallic compds and a solid catalyst component prepd. from halogen-free Mg(bis organooxides), electron donoys. and Ti halides. Thus, 0.2mole Mg(OPh)2 and 0.033mole EtOBz were ball-milled 100h to give a solid product which was mixed with 200mh TiCl4 and heated 2h at 80≦̸C, giving a solid catalyst compont(A). Propylene was polymd. at 7kg/cm2 and 60oC in the presence of 750ml hexane contg. Et3Al 5.0, Me p-toluate 1.59, and Ti(add as A) 0.33 mmole with adden, of 350mlH for 4h, giving 244 g white, powdery polypropylene with boiling heptane extn. residue 96.2%, bulk d. 0.36, and melt index 4.9.
