PURPOSE:To increase easily the number of picture elements through slight increase in the capacity of ROM, by counting the run length of white or black signal of a video signal with a counter and outputting a code corresponding to a plurality of bits at upper, medium and lower ranks of the counter output. CONSTITUTION:The video signal in photoelectric conversion from the input terminal 1 is stored in the line memory 9, and the run length of white or black signal output from the memory 9 is counted at the counter 10. A plurality of bits at upper, medium and lower rank of the output counted at the counter 10 are selected with the selector 11 and stored in ROM12. Further, the state of output signal from the memory 9 is detected at the white/black detection circuit 5 and it is fed as the address of ROM12, the code corresponding to the upper, medium and lower rank bits selected at the selector 11 is produced from ROM12, and the code output from ROM 12 is stored in the buffer memory 7 tentatively under the control of the control section 20, allowing to increase the number of picture elements easily. |
