Rotary drum for the prepn. of asphalt for road construction can be heated from either end by separate heaters or pref. by a heater transferred from one end to the other, with the bitumen and mineral fillers travelling in the same or opposite directions. Each end has a permanently installed fume extractor cap, and the cap not required at any moment is closed off by a blocking member. A single unit can be used either for the standard method with a batch of filler dried, weighed, heated and mixed with the bitumen, or the more recently developed method where all the materials are continuously fed into a rotating drum.
