The adaptive control system for a rotary polishing machine has a measuring device supplying control signals obtained from the workpieces during the polishing operation. These are fed to a processing unit comparing the control signals with those obtained from a workpiece model after correction for the difference in temp. to provide the control signals for the polishing process. The processing unit may compare the dimensions of successively machined workpieces with required values to determine the error trend for supplying signals allowing its correction. The measuring device providing the signals representing the workpiece parameters during machining may be incorporated in the feed system for the polishing disc.
