Metal foreign body detection for steel reinforced conveyor belt - compares properties of belt before and after delivery of conveyed material

The detection of metal foreign bodies within material deposited on a steel wire reinforced conveyor belt is effected using two detectors (1,2) continuously measuring the same characteristic of the conveyor belt and placed upstream and downstream of the material deposition point. The detectors (1,2) are coupled to a comparator (3) which supplies a control signal (4) when their difference varies from a reference value. The comparator (3) may compensate for detected rotational variations of the non-driven conveyor drum (5). The conveyor belt may be used to deliver rubbish to a bagging station with metal foreign bodies detected within the rubbish fed onto the belt to allow their removal preventing damage to the conveyor belt.
