The rotary piston machine includes an interface fluid valve mechanism comprising a flat blank surface, a rotary valve member, and a stationary valve member. The rotary valve has a flange body and a hollow extension body extending axially from it. The flange has a rotating valve face cooperating with the stationary valve face and defining with it a commutating interface valve. The rotary valve member is subject to an axial fluid force in a direction tending to urge the rotating valve face towards the stationary valve face and tending to separate the master surface away from the wear-in servant surface. THe wear-in servant surface is protected from wearing out in this way.
