The railway wheel with a sprung tyre has the tyre (6) linked to the wheel disc (5) by elastic blocks (8) for radial elasticity. Axial distortion is avoided using angled thrust tags (9) set diagonally between the tyre and the wheel disc, and locating in respective lips (25,26) in the tyre and rim. The tags are spaced sufficiently so as to allow radial displacement. This provides a firm support when running over points without excessive axial displacement to derail the wheel. Diagonally opposite edges of the tyre and wheel disc have distinct lips to locate the ends of the tags.
