<p>This is an addn. to 3005610, which described the winding of metal strip as two layers on a coiling mandrel. The tail end of the strip is welded to the front end of the following metal strip or coil, so an endless strip permits the fully continuous operation of rolling mills and/or other treatment plant. The novelty is in the use of a double-layer wound coil, from which one end travels to a rolling mill, whereas the other end travels through one or more split winding mandrels and a looper store to a welding station, where it is joined to one end of another double-wound coil. The size of the looper store can be decreased.</p> |
