The method of installing electrical fittings uses a socket (10) which is embedded in a wall, into which is inserted a modular fitting (20). The fitting can be a rotary or on/off switch, a dimmer, a plug, a sensor etc., or combinations of these fittings. Inside the base of the socket is a set of contacts (11) with curved ends, which are engaged by corresponding contact strips (21) projecting downwards from the bottom of the modular fitting. The strips are L-shaped, with horizontal ends which fit into openings through a cover plate (15) over the contacts. This gives a bayonet type connection as the strips are forced into contact with the contacts. Projecting downwards from the centre of the base of the fitting is a spring loaded contact (23) which fits into a hole (12) in the middle of the cover plate.
