The television film scanning equipment uses a light source and a lens system one side of the film and an electro-optical converter for a semiconductor scanning device for converting the light signals into video signals. A device is used to protect the converter from excessive light when the film is stationary. This can occur while a correct lighting level is being obtained. Between the light source and the film there is located a set of condenser lenses followed by an intermediate condenser a field lens and an image aperture. Between the lenses of the first condenser is a screen with a slot aperture having a width equal to about 10 lines of the television system. This arrangement also protects the film from overheating.
