The mechanism has an electric motor drive system coupled to an operating element (60,61) which operates a door holding switch (30,31. Pref. the operating element (60,61) comprises a disc rotated by a spring into the release position for the switch (30,31) when the coupling with the drive system is released. The switches are incorporated with the housing of the door operating mechanism so that they are out of reach of children etc., but with their setting readily adjusted when required.
