The ignition timing control uses the temp. of a component exhibiting a high correlation with the combustion chamber temp. as one of the control parameters for adjustment of the ignition timing. This component may be the spark plug socket, the cylinder head gasket or the central electrode of a spark plug. The temp. control parameter may be used in conjunction with the suction intake pressure for a fully-electronic ignition timing control, or it can be used on its own. In both cases the ignition timing can be adjusted to obtain max. fuel economy with min. exhaust emission levels throughout the engine performance range.
