The automatic speed regulator for gas compression engines for commercial vehicle applications is designed to be inexpensive and of simple mechanical construction. Engine speed is sensed by an inductive pulse generator that uses a rotating notched disc that interacts with a coil. The coil controls a needle valve to regulate the flow of compressed air from a regulator to a pneumatic cylinder actuator. The actuator changes the position of a butterfly valve in the inlet manifold and so reduces fuel intake to vary the engine speed. The actuator body is coupled over a linkage to the accelerator pedal to provide mechanical override.
