With a change of the position of irradiation, the reflected light beams 5A and 5B having different angles form an image between two points A and B on a photosensor 7 through an optical lens 6. The detector 3 delivers the electric signal V that is proportional to the extent DELTAh of the movement of the formed image. The output V receives a vibration analysis through a frequency spectrum analyzer 10, and the grain size distribution is calculated for the group of the object 1 by an operator 11 and based on the frequency spectrum and the conveyor speed S. The grain size distribution is then displayed at the display devices 12, 13 and 14.
