PURPOSE:To enable the utilization of microorganism to a wood-utilizing industries such as wood-saccharification process, by using a newly separated novel lignin-decomposition microbial strain NK-1148 having high lignin-decomposition activity and capable of selectively decomposing lignin. CONSTITUTION:A novel lignin-decomposition microbial strain NK-1148 (FERM P-9384) is inoculated in a medium such as potato-glucose agar medium containing a woody raw material and is incubated at an optimum temperature of 28-37 deg.C or thereabout for a prescribed period while keeping the pH of the medium to about 4-6. The NK-1148 strain has exceedingly high lignin- decomposition activity and lignin-selective and, accordingly, it is especially suitable for a mass-production using a large-sized tank and the treating time can be shortened. Since a delicate operation is not necessary in wood- saccharification industry, etc., the present process is especially suited for industrial use. It can be advantageously applied to a field for utilizing a cellulosic biomass such as wood or to a paper and pulp manufacturing process. The present invention is the first process to enable the industrial use of lignin decomposition. |
