A ventilation/feedwater switching apparatus for endoscope includes a tubular body (21) which is fixedly mounted in an operating end of an endoscope and to which a ventilation tube (7) and a feedwater tube (8) are connected, whereby the tubular body is disposed in a ventilation and feedwater path. A cylindrical sliding valve element (22) is slidably fitted in the tubular body (21) to permit a switching between the ventilation and the water feed operation. The sliding valve element (22) is formed with an air discharge port (26c), while the other end thereof is formed with an air delivery port (22b) which is normally closed by a check valve element (23) which is detachably mounted on the sliding valve element (22). A valve push rod (not shown) may be assembled in and extend through the sliding valve element (22), and may be used to force the check valve element (23) open in response to an external pushing operation if the check valve element should become stuck.
