PURPOSE:To determine the position of a dresser in relation to a cutter roll by detecting a change of electric current or oil pressure in a drive source of the dresser, while perform adequate dressing process to a necessary place on the cutter roll by detecting the width of a work plate. CONSTITUTION:A rotary dresser 5 can be shifted to an optional position on a cutter roll 1 by a screw bar 4. During rotary motion of the cutter roll 1 the rotary dresser 5 is tilted with a shaft 3 by a worm jack 9, then a change of electric current or oil pressure, generated when a drive motor 6 rotates with contact of the rotary dresser to the cutter roll is detected to determine the position of the dresser in relation to the cutter roll. The width of a work plate is detected by light or the like to perform dressing work on unworn portion of the cutter roll and obtain a uniform grinding face. In this way, positioning work of the dresser can be performed to obtain a good grinding face without adapting a standard roll to the cutter roll. |
