The coke wagon has lined walls, assembled to allow thermal expansion, and a conical bottom with a discharge orifice provided with a surrounding collar and with closure plates. The walls and their lining sheets are spaced apart and the lining sheets are joined together and to the walls by bolts and spacers. The closure plates have sealing elements having at least one working face oriented so that, when the plates are in the closed position, it is positioned tangentially in contact with the circular collar of the discharge orifice. The wagon is used for receiving and transporting incandescent coke from a coke oven to a quenching unit. Play between the lining sheets and in the zone of contact between the closure plates and the discharge orifice is eliminated so that coke losses by combustion are reduced and the walls are protected against heat.
