A machine for lamination of superimposed layers of thermoplastic film by high frequency (hf) welding and having a support plate covered with insulation material (to inhibit arcing) is designed so that the support plate can swivel laterally relative to the film throughput path as the film is released from the electrode for further advance. Used esp. in automatic processes where the welded sheets of e.g. flexible PVC continue as a coherent sheet from which sub-panels bounded by locally weakened weld zones are subsequently detached. This reduces risk of adhesion between the welded sheet and on an insulating (plastics) film cover on the support plate which would require removal of residual panels from between the welding platen and the support plate, and avoids use of coatings of parting agents or need for a significant vertical deviation in the ongoing film path. |
