The hydraulic actuator locks in the extended or retracted positions. The actuator comprises a piston (1) sliding inside a cylindrical tube (2), forming two pressure chambers (3,4). The upper chamber is filled by an incompressible fluid such as oil under pressure through a channel (6). The lock comprises spring hooks (25) attached to the crown (23) of the outer cylinder (22); the hooks engaging in recesses (35) in a piston (26) which follows the outer tube (2) as it extends.
