Pptn. of peroxides of nuclear fuel and breeder materials, esp. U, Th and/or Pu, with H2O2 from solns. of the corresp. metal salt(s) in HNO3 or HF is carried out at pH max. 0.5 (0.05-0.5), then the filtrate is conc. by evapn. and recycled to the pptn. soln. No ammonium salts are formed and the ppte. gives a UO2 or mixed oxide powder with as good pressing and sintering properties as possible after calcination and redn.
