The invention relates to matrix printing devices for teleprinters and similar office machines with text memory and remote-control operation. The object of the invention consists in being able to print out texts which are available having been coded character-by-character, without a complex mechanical positioning arrangement in a remote-controlled manner and without manual intervention in vertical and landscape format, whilst retaining the same feed direction of the recording medium. The features of the invention include the fact that the individual printing elements are arranged at intervals which are equal to the advance of the print head and of the recording medium, and the text memory organisation is selected such that the characters to be printed can be called up for one format along the text columns and for the other format along the text lines. <IMAGE>
