PURPOSE:To make the joint of optical fibers easy with reduced propagation loss, by making the surface of groove smooth and making it semicircular, by forming the groove of the optical waveguide path, by irradiating laser beam on the surface of substrate. CONSTITUTION:The groove 1 is formed by irradiating the surface of the substrate 2 made of quartz, glass and Si or the like, with the laser collecting beam 3. By filling the transparent substance having high refractive index than that of the substrate 2 in the groove 1, the optical waveguide path 5 is formed. The surface of the groove 1 is smooth and less in the propagation loss of light, and since the cross section of the groove 1 is semicircular and the optical waveguide path 5 has almost circular section, the coupling with the optical fiber is easy. |
