<p>Compsn. for heat prodn. comprises (by wt.%): 50-95 of an Fe-contg. byprod. (I) of steel prodn., e.g. Fe oxide; a mineral acid; 10-25 pulverulent Al, Mg or Mn; and water. A retardant such as lime or sand may also be included. (I) is pref. >=1 of flue dust, mill scale, BOP dust, filter cake or a sinter blend. Pref. mineral acid is HCl and pref. reducing metal is Al or particle size is not 1/8 in.; in one embodiment Al dross is used. The pref. amt. of Al is 15-25 wt.%. Compsn. can be ignited to burn at >=6000 degrees F and contains low cost, easily available materials.</p> |
