Diversion of gas escaping from reservoir if accident occurs - where escaping gas is liquefied by refrigerant and fed into storage tank

Stored material consists esp. of fetid-, and/or toxic-, and/or corrosive gas, a noble gas, or a volatile liq. If gas or vapour escapes from a reservoir, it is cooled to below its b.pt. via a refrigerant consisting of liq. CO2, or a liq. gas with a low b.pt.; and the liquefied gas thus obtd. is fed into a tank. The liq. in tank may be returned to the initial reservoir, or re-evaporated and burnt in a flare. The pref. plant consists of a reservoir with a safety valve leading to a heat exchanger cooled via liq. CO2, so gas escaping via the safety valve flows as a liq. into a tank provided with an expansion chamber and a flare stack. A high degree of safety is provided at low cost; and the escaping gas can be reclaimed.
