The flange connection (12,22) is intended for coupling two pipes (11,12) which are individually closable and are used for transferring material which can cause contamination, such as pulverised or granular uranium and plutonium oxide mixture. Each flange is provided with a shut-off valve (15,25) whilst the valve (25) in one flange (22) has supply (3) and return connections (4) for a flushing medium to decontaminate the space between the valves, whilst the flanges are connected. The supply may lead to a central inlet (28) in this space, whilst outlet from this space is via an annular duct (27).
