PURPOSE:To obtain furan in high yield, by oxidizing crotonaldehyde in the presence of phosphomolybdic acid or/and an alkali metallic salt thereof and oxygen in the vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:Crotonaldehyde is oxidized in the presence of oxygen and phosphomolybdic acid generally expressed by the formula H3PMo12O40.nH2O or/and an alkali metallic salt thereof, e.g. sodium, potassium, rubidium or cesium salt, particularly cesium salt, at 250-400 deg.C, preferably 300-360 deg.C, to give furan in high selectivity. The catalyst is usually supported on a carrier. Preferably, the concentration of the oxygen is 2-10%, and the concentration of the crotonaldehyde is 0.1-5%. |
