<p>In order to achieve more certain release of the towing coupling, and to reduce the pedal pressure required for its release, a servo motor is included. The installation can be designed to give servo assistance to the foot pedal or give a full servo operation. In a typical installation the operating lever (1) for releasing the towing mechanism is connected to the output shaft of a servo motor (13). This is typically powered from the suction in the engine inlet manifold. Attached to the pedal (6) is a strain gauge (11) whose output, suitable amplified (12), controls the action of the servo motor. The foot pedal is also connected through the strain gauge to the operating lever (1) giving a servo assisted system. A full servo system can be arranged by connecting the pedal only to a position transducer whose output then controls the position of the operating arm.</p> |
