Restraining belt closure clasp with automatic locking - has slider magnetically biassed into locking position and released by magnetic key

The strap for an elderly or mentally ill patient has a closure clasp comprising a fixing pin (10) with a conical end (12) fitting into an opening in a clasp housing (13). This contains a locking slider (15) which is acted on by a magnet (14) to automatically move it into engagement with a groove (17) around the surface of the fixing pin (10) just below the conical end (12) preventing subsequent extraction of the pin (10). The clasp housing (13) has an insertion slot (16) for a release key (20) which has a magnetic section (19) at its inner end overcoming the force provided by the previous magnet (14) to allow the slider (15) to be moved out of engagement with the locking slot (17). Pref. the magnetic section (19) of the release key and the incorporated magnet (14) act on opposite ends of the slider (15). The clasp is self-locking and can be rapidly released by insertion or the key, without this having to be turned.
