The wire tightener has a rotary core on which the wire is wound, the core (9) being mounted eccentrically in bearings. The core can be part of a bar bent into a U-shape, accommodated in an oblong eye (1) of plate material. This has an opening (6) at one end for the wire to pass through, while at the other the two sides are bent towards each other and then extend in the lengthwise direction, a common hole (5) being formed in them. Opposite holes in the plate material form bearings for the eccentric core.
