NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I', formula I'' and I'''(Ar is aromatic group; R<1> is H, alkyl, or aryl; R<2> is alkyl or aryl; X' is benzyloxy or azido; X'' is OH or amino; X''' is acylamino). EXAMPLE:1-(1-Methoxycarbonylbenzyl)-3-azido-4-phenylazetidin-2-one. USE:Raw material for the preparation of dipeptide. PROCESS:Reaction of a Schiff base of formula II with a compound of formula III (Y is halogen or OH) in a solvent such as benzene, in the presence of a tert-amine such as triethylamine at -78-+100 deg.C, affords a compound of formula I', whih can be converted to a compound of formula I'' by the hydrogenative decomposition in a solvent such as methanol, in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd black at room temp. -150 deg.C. A compound of the formula I'' can be prepared by reacting a compound of formula I'' wherein X'' is amino with an acid chloride or an acid anhydride in a solvent such as benzene at -30 deg.C -room temp. |
